Campus crime update: a textbook hustler, grand theft shopping cart and the smell of gas

Here’s a brief update on campus crimes that occurred between August 15 and August 20.

The Merchant of Cesar Chavez

With a double-dip recession possibly approaching the American economy, many citizens are finding creative ways to make ends meet. One industrious fellow, who wasn’t an SF State student, tried reselling books he hadn’t purchased to the bookstore on Monday, August 15. Campus police were contacted and they barred him from returning to the campus.

Grand Theft Cart

Trader Joe’s has a fan-following thanks to its low prices and Hawaiian ambiance (also, those veggie chips). On August 17 at 3:20 p.m., one Trader Joe’s admirer decided to take one of the grocery chain’s shopping carts home, possibly to represent the brand proudly as they attempted Jackass-inspired stunts. Unfortunately, shopping cart removal is illegal and the TJ’s fan was ticketed.

Reported Gas Leak

A person in the psychology building reported the smell of gas inside of the building on last Friday at 5 p.m. Campus police confirmed the smell and contacted PG&E who said the gas leak was a non-threatening and would be repaired Monday. Xpress spoke with the facilities maintenance team who said a main gas line outside the building was shut off and manholes were opened to remove the smell from the building.
