Ike's Place to open on campus tomorrow after year-long wait

After a number of delays, Ike’s Place is opening tomorrow, March 1, exactly one year after the sandwich shop was scheduled to open on campus.

A soft opening for Ike’s Place will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lower recreation and dining area, according to Cesar Chavez Student Center Marketing Coordinator Garrett Deese.

It’s been a long time coming for founder Ike Shehadeh, who already has one location in San Francisco, and another in Stanford.

“Yes, I’ll be there and there will be some SF State references on the menu,” Shehadeh said in a tweet. “I’m most excited that this project is finally going to open.”

SF State Recreation, Parks, and Tourism major Riley Westgaard can’t wait to get a “Mobile Mamma,” her favorite Ike’s sandwich.

“I’m excited for more vegetarian places on campus,” said Westgaard, 21. “Especially with really good, juicy fake meat.”

When asked last November about the delays, Leonard Corpus, retail commercial services manager for the student center, attributed them to incomplete electrical and plumbing plans for the shop. Shehadeh questioned the reasons, saying that he wasn’t sure if those were the accurate cause.

Regardless of past issues, Ike’s Place is finally here.
