Optimism paid off for the SF State wrestling team as they grappled toward victory.
Three Gators placed in their respective weight classes, totaling out the day with six wins by fall in the 37th Annual California Collegiate Open at SF State, Feb. 2.
Among the victors were SF State’s wrestling head coach Lars Jensen’s top picks Naveed Bagheri, 141 pounds, and Isaiah Jimenez, 165 pounds, who won in their respective weight classes. Isaiah Hurtado, 133 pounds, also placed second in his weight class.
Bagheri, ranking fourth in the nation and Jimenez ranking sixth, triumphed with 4-0 records. Hurtado, not far behind, ended the day with a 3-1 record.
