Members of the Black Student Union gathered in the quad Friday to read a statement supporting student Bonita Tindle and condemning SF State and the media for endangering Tindle.
“We, the Black Student Union do not support the mass publication of videos, articles and any other statements that misrepresent this incident,” the statement read. “This misrepresentation has led to racist, homophobic and misogynistic slurs being directed at members of our organization.”
Tindle was the subject of a viral video published March 28, which showed her involved in a confrontation with student Cory Goldstein over his dreadlocks, which she claimed are cultural appropriation. The video has since garnered over 3 million views on YouTube and sparked a contentious debate over whether a white person wearing dreadlocks is cultural appropriation.
After the video’s publication, SF State released a statement acknowledging the incident and announcing their plans for appropriate action.
“We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures,” Jonathan Morales, director of news and new media at SF State, said in a statement issued the day after the incident.
The incident, which is still being investigated by SF State, has led to a wave of backlash against Tindle and the black community that the BSU called “appalling.”
“The publication of a young woman’s personal information, such as her home address or her cell phone number, is a despicable attack on her personal privacy and safety,” the statement read. “We must ask ourselves … why did a disagreement between two individuals become an incident which the black community must answer for?”
The BSU criticized the media for wanting to cover the incident and for failing to present a well-rounded report of everything that happened. They also called on SF State to investigate the whole incident instead of only what was presented in the video and treat Tindle fairly during the investigation.
“Our ultimate goal is to educate, liberate and advance the progression of our people and all people,” the statement read. “We want the University to ensure that (Tindle) is safe on this campus, given the threats declared against her.”

The black community didn’t have to answer for this incident. They could have just done nothing and let Tindle answer for herself. Instead we are seeing certain members of the black community not only defend Tindle’s actions, but push obvious lies that Goldstein called her a bitch. Tindle doesn’t deserve threats of violence, harassment, nor being doxxed, but she does deserve to have her actions called out.

And people wonder why stereotypes exist. Whit people made her assault his white guy eh? Perhaps the lack of self accountability within the black culture isn’t a stereotype. Perhaps borrowing or in their words, appropriating, such a novel idea from white culture would be a positive step. Also, gotta love how the absolute kings of 20 second videos that, in their view, absolutely proves cops are just killing black men now somehow want all of America to oppose the use of such videos. Tell ya what, lead by example blm, and just maybe we will agree on the use of video. But, until the rank hypocrisy ends, along with the attitude of white people made ‘me’ make really stupid decisions ends ( which will not happen of course) then the rest of America will continue to completely ignore you and move right on along with the status quo. Sucks for them, oh well.

Bonita attacked Cory because he was the ‘wrong race’ to wear dreadlocks. She blatantly behaved in a hostile and racist manner. She is the only one who needs to answer for her offenses, unless BSU wants to make excuses and lies on her behalf, which would make BSU accessories after the fact. No one is forcing BSU or the Black community to shelter this outed racist.

She’s nothing more than a violent racist, and BSU is proving that it is nothing more than an organisation of racists by supporting her disgusting behaviour.
Tindle should be expelled immediately, and I’d argue that Davia Spain (her smug accomplice) should be placed on notice of the same if she commits any infraction in future. BSU should be censured for supporting a racist and forced to issue an apology. This kind of behaviour shouldn’t be tolerated in a civilised society, and that’s clearly something that Tindle, Spain, and the BSU desperately need to be reminded of.
I’m sick of the stupidity of the smokescreen of social justice being used to promote racist and sexist behaviour by the usual scumbags on campus. Tindle and Spain have the grins of bullies in that video because they believe that much like the countless times they’ve been racist and sexist on campus before that nothing will happen to them. I’m glad those goons got caught. I’m glad that they can’t hide their vile behaviour in the warped reality of campus ethics – we saw it, and we’re disgusted.
